# Managing Languages

Install and manage language packs for on-device transcription.

Before you can transcribe audio in a specific language, you need to ensure that the language pack is installed on your device. Silkwave Voice uses Apple's on-device speech-to-text models for transcription, which requires language-specific models to be downloaded.

### [Installing Language Packs](/content/docs/silkwave-voice/managing-languages#installing-language-packs/index.html)

1. Open Silkwave Voice and go to **Settings**.
2. Select **Transcription Languages** from the sidebar.
3. You will see a table of supported languages with their **Status** and **Actions**.
   - **Installed:** The language is ready to use.
   - **Not Installed:** Click the **download icon** in the Actions column to install the language pack.

macOS allows up to 5 installed languages and **may require Wi-Fi** to download them. Language packs are downloaded directly from Apple and stored on your device.
